Ernie Chang (Andy Frasco & The U.N.) Curates Swing Collab With Members Of Turkuaz, Wild Adriatic, More [Watch]

first_imgErnie Chang, the saxophonist for Andy Frasco & The U.N., is using his time in quarantine to explore his broader stylistic preferences. In a new video, Chang recruits members of bands like Turkuaz, Wild Adriatic, Sophistafunk, and more to play something totally different than what they play with their respective touring bands: 1940s jazz.As Chang explained to Live For Live Music, “This project was something that came to me during quarantine. [I] thought it would be a great idea to collaborate with different people from different groups creating something we don’t usually play. … This video consists of Josh Schwartz and Mikey Carubba from Turkuaz, Mike Oehmen from Wild Adriatic, Tommy Weeks from Sophistafunk/Funky Dawgz, Chris Lorentz (Darren Chris/The U.N.) and myself.”Related: Andy Frasco & The U.N. Release New LP, ‘Keep On Keepin’ On’, A Beacon Of Light In Tough Times [Review]Chang noted that the drum and bass parts were recorded first, and the four horn parts were layered over that backing track. Dressed in their finest performance tuxedos, the four horn players begin the video with a virtual toast before the bass and drums appear to kick off a performance of jazz standard, “Four Brothers”. Watch this collection of jam scene horn players show that their swing chops are still working just fine after years of funk and rock ‘n’ roll below:“Four Brothers” Quarantine Cover ft. members of The U.N., Turkuaz, & MoreErnie Chang also noted that he hopes to make this a series with various members of touring bands. For now, you can support the cause and help fund future collabs by dropping a little something in Ernie’s virtual tip jar (Venmo: @Ernest-Chang / Paypal: [email protected] / CashApp: $erniechang1).last_img read more

Network Rail deep alliance goes live

first_imgUK: The ‘deep alliance’ between infrastructure manager Network Rail and passenger operator South West Trains went live on April 29, with a ‘single senior joint management team’ now responsible for infrastructure and train operations on NR’s Wessex Route, one of the busiest commuter networks in Europe.Planned to run until the end of the current SWT franchise on February 4 2017, the alliance aims to improve efficiency and the management of disruption by facilitating more collaborative working and faster decision-making. Network Rail Chief Executive David Higgins said the launch ‘marks a new phase in the evolution of Network Rail as we continue to push decision-making away from the centre, empowering our front-line managers to run the railway more effectively’. He stressed that Network Rail would continue to focus on delivering its obligations to all train operators, including freight companies, ‘protecting the interests of all customers whilst maintaining the seamless operation of the whole network’. Aligned objectives and incentives are promised by the alliance partners, with a single management team for London Waterloo station, better planning of track maintenance work and an improved response to disruption. Staff terms and conditions and collective bargaining agreements remain unchanged, but ‘operational efficiencies’ are expected from joint training, communications and occupational health processes. Burkina Faso recalls ambassador to Libya over “slave markets” report

first_imgMinister of Foreign Affairs Alpha Barry of Burkina Faso in Manhattan, New York, U.S. September 19, 2016. REUTERS/Carlo Allegri Minister of Foreign Affairs Alpha Barry of Burkina Faso in Manhattan, New York, U.S. September 19, 2016. REUTERSBurkina Faso’s foreign minister said on Monday it had recalled its ambassador to Libya over a report that black African migrants were being auctioned as slaves there. The decision comes after CNN broadcasted footage of what it said was an auction of men offered to Libyan buyers as farmhands and sold for $400, a chilling echo of the trans-Saharan slave trade of centuries past, Reuters reports.Foreign Minister Alpha Barry announced the decision by President Roch Marc Kabore in a news conference.“The president of Burkina Faso has decided to recall the ambassador to Tripoli, General Abraham Traore, for a consultation,” Barry said.He added that he had also “summoned the Libyan charge d‘affairs in Ouagadougou to express our indignation at these images that belong to other centuries, images of the slave trade”.African and European leaders are due to meet in Ivory Coast’s main city of Abidjan next week, where migration and Europe’s efforts to tackle it by co-opting Libya will be high on the agenda. The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra‘ad al-Hussein said last month that a European and African deal to stem the flow of migrants coming through Libya to Europe had failed to tackle the severe abuses they face.A study by the UNHCR revelled that movements by sea from Libya to Europe, have increased and are likely to rise, despite being the most dangerous route for reaching the continent.last_img read more
