first_img Zach Cates (jimhoguephotos.com) UWF Drops Regular Season Finale Sharecenter_img VALDOSTA, Ga. —  The University of West Florida baseball team fell 10-0 to the Valdosta State Blazers Sunday afternoon in the final regular season game of the 2009 schedule.  Even with the loss the Argos managed to clinch the fourth seed to next weekend’s Gulf South Conference Tournament with North Alabama’s 19-17 loss to Alabama-Huntsville.The Blazers came out of the gate swinging, putting up a run in each of the first two innings to hop out to a 2-0 lead. Two more runs would come across the board in the third on a two-run homer by Brandon Decker to make it a 4-0 ballgame.After slating another run in each of the next two innings, a four run seventh would doom the Argos.  The inning and the game was capped off by an RBI double by Decker to center field which scored  Logan Pierce for the tenth run of the ballgame to put the 10-run rule in effect.Offensively for the Argos the managed only five hits against the Blazer’s starting pitcher, Matt Costello.  Three of the five Argonaut hits were supplied by Zach Cates who finished the game 3-for-3.Even with the loss the Argos clinched the No. 4 seed to next weekend’s GSC Tournament in Millington, Tenn.  The news of the tournament berth came shortly after North Alabama dropped their season finale to Alabama-Huntsville 19-17.  For more information on Argonaut athletics or to follow along with live stats, fans can keep up with the action at www.GoArgos.com.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
