AG’s office pays men £25,000 more than women

first_imgThe attorney general’s office is one of Whitehall’s worst offenders in terms of gender pay parity, according to research by the Guardian newspaper. Women civil servants at Jeremy Wright QC’s department are paid an average of £36,250 while men get £61,240, according to analysis of data from the Office for National Statistics. The AGO has relatively few staff (about 40) and therefore small movements can skew the statistics, the research acknowledges. Yet the gap has widened by 18 points in the last decade, to 41%.A spokesperson for the office said: ’In a very small organisation like AGO, minor changes in staffing can lead to significant changes in percentages so we do not believe too much can be read into these statistics. We are strongly committed to diversity: our two most senior members of staff are women and over half of the Executive Board are women.”The AGO has recently appointed a diversity champion and said it has policies in place to encourage female applicants for roles and to ensure equal treatment of candidates. The average gender pay gap across all government departments and agencies is 13% (with men earning an average of £28,280 and women £24,680). The Ministry of Justice doing slightly ‘better’ at 11% (excluding agencies).Since 2008 the pay gap has widened at 23 of 97 government departments or bodies. These include the Supreme Court (14% wider).A Cabinet Office spokesperson quoted by the paper said: ’The most recent ONS report shows that overall, the civil service gender pay gap has narrowed, but in small organisations it is very sensitive to minor changes in staffing. The pay gap is affected by differences in seniority, profession and regional distribution of staff, which can be very different across departments and are not controlled for in the raw data.’In autumn this year we will be launching our new diversity and inclusion strategy, which outlines plans to achieve our aim of becoming the most inclusive employer in the UK by 2020. The strategy will set out how we will continue to improve the gender balance of the civil service at all levels.’last_img read more

Indians Pull Out Extra Inning 5-4 Win in the Windy City to Move to 10-7

first_img Related TopicsCarlos SantanaDelino DeShieds Jr.featured NEOSI Staff By Jared EdwardsTonight we had bonus baseball in Chicago as the Indians took down the White Sox 5-4 to move to 10-7 on the season.Shane Bieber was not as steady in his fourth start as he had been the previous three. Bieber pitched six innings allowing four hits and three earned runs. He matched his third start total with eight strikeouts but allowed two home runs and walked two batters. Bieber definitely pitched well enough to win this game and with some earlier run support, he would have.Chicago’s DH Jose Abreu started the scoring off with a deep home run to left field in the bottom of the second inning off Cleveland ace Bieber. The Indians answered back when Mike Freeman doubled to lead off the top of the third. Sandy Leon followed with a walk. Freeman was driven in with an RBI double from the second baseman Cesar Hernandez tying the game at 1-1 and sending Leon to third base. Jose Ramirez would rip a single to right field bringing home Leon and giving the Tribe a 2-1 lead. The White Sox would plate two in the bottom of the sixth with a home run from catcher James McCann and a double from Yasmani Grandal that drove in Yoan Moncada giving the Sox a 3-2 lead.Cleveland would bring on my favorite reliever, the young fireballer, James Karinchak who was able to hold Chicago in the bottom of the seventh. Karinchak has an extremely impressive curveball that is borderline unhittable along with a 97 mph fastball. He is going to be a huge part of the Tribe bullpen for years to come. The Indians would finally tie the game when Carlos Santana drew a two out walk in the top of the eighth and than Franmil Reyes smashed a double that split the left and center fielder allowing Santana to score all the way from first, tying the game at 3-3.The new extra innings rule, which allows each team to start the inning with a runner on second base, played a large roll in helping the Indians score in their half of the 10th. Ramirez started the inning on second and after a Francisco Lindor fly out to center. Santana was able to move Ramirez to third and reach on an infield single. Delino DeShields Jr. would execute a perfect bunt to bring Ramirez home to score and also reach base. Domingo Santana would ground into what should have been an inning ending double play but Deshields ran hard into second and was able to affect the throw allowing Domingo Santana to reach safely. Freeman would bring home Carlos Santana with a sharp single to center giving the Indians a 5-3 lead.Indians closer Brad Hand came on in the bottom of the tenth as heavy rains began to fall in Chicago. Hand would get Luis Robert to hit a deep fly to left but it allowed Nomar Mazara to move up to third base.White Sox catcher McCann hit a bloop single to center that should have been caught by Bradley Zimmer but he took a step back when the ball was hit instead of charging in on it. This allowed Mazara to score from third and make it a one run game at 5-4. Hand would walk Chicago’s nine hitter Danny Mendick right before the grounds crew brought the tarp out as the umpires called for a rain delay. After a short 44 minute delay, Indians wily old veteran Oliver Perez came out to face Leury Garcia and got him to pop out on the first pitch. Perez then battled to strikeout Moncado to end the ballgame and get the series win for the Tribe.last_img read more

Boston Bootleggers – “Bootleggers are the pirates of prohibition and Boston boasted their fair share. The fact that a few famous bootleggers made good in the end is an even better association for a city likely to compete at the top of the league.”DC Current – “The center of current events is cut through by the ever flowing current of the Potomac. The reference to electricity is also far from accidental as we see it representing the excitement of the games to be played in our nation’s capital.”New Jersey Founders – “Ultimate was born in the Garden State and that contribution deserves recognition. Without Maplewood, NJ and the first collegiate game between Rutgers and Princeton, the MLU might not exist. Here’s to the Founders.”NY Rumble – “This name is part Madison Square Garden and part West Side Story, but more importantly it represents the fight in the big apple. New York is a city that refuses to give up. It is a city fully prepared to throw down, to mix it up, to rumble.”Philadelphia Spinners – “The Spinners are the only MLU team to join the league with an existing name. The fanbase they built during their first season assured that the team’s name would carry over into 2013. We also like the reference to the famous R&B album credited with starting the Philadelphia Sound.”Portland Stags – “An unabashed reference to Portland’s White Stag Building and its iconic neon sign, this team name also accepts the mythological tone of its totem. The white stag is the ever elusive, adventure inspiring symbol of Arthurian Lore. It is a sign of great deeds to be done, and we expect nothing less from this team.”San Francisco Dogfish – “The dogfish is a shark species common in the San Francisco Bay area. While not the largest shark in the water, it is a speedy, undiscerning hunter. The dogfish earned its name from its tendency to hunt in packs, and we thought teamwork like that was a great qualification for a team name.”San Jose Black Hats – “The reference to the modern-day tech bad guys in an area renowned for technological development proved impossible to resist. The image of a driven, intelligent individual that can undermine your defenses seems a direct nod to the attack of a well-coached Ultimate team. If they also happen to be just a little unsavory and shrouded in shadow, we can work with that.”Seattle Rainmakers – “The Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, Pike’s Market. All of these are iconic features of Seattle, but none is as intimately associated with the city as its famous drizzle. This team has embraced the elements and is ready to drop the boom on all opponents. Make it rain.”Vancouver Nighthawks – “There is something about a nocturnal, predatory bird that’s hard not to like. Common to British Columbia, Nighthawks have an acrobatic, if erratic, flight pattern used to catch their quick, agile prey. They are also famous for the loud booming sound they are able to produce with their wings. It’ll be a surprise if we don’t hear some booming in the Vancouver stands next year.” 3,326 mattb6 Share this post Link to post Posted December 2, 2012 Favourite Logos:Hartford WhalersOttawa Senators =O= Chicago BlackhawksMontreal ExposLake Elsinore Storm 2,209 Firefly Share on other sites 1 22,390 posts Share on other sites 452 posts Share this post 0 0 There really ought to be a restriction on a third-tier sport using the designation “major league”.Why? They wanted all work done on spec with the ‘promise’ of much publicity in front od th elikes of “Mt. Dew, Nike” etc etc… that would obviously pay off much larger than what I would charge them. After creating some concepts for their player trading cards and telling them the fees to do all teams they came back with the “we wanted it for free”, I said no thanks.Never again… do NO work until you have a signed agreement. Of all the thousands of logos that are out there of course things are gonna be similar. so to accuse someone of ripping a design doesn’t hold much merit, just because you see a similarity. cmon now. this is supposed to be a good thing in the ultimate community, its great that we can all come up with ideas for the MLU; dont label this as fraud, lotta hard work and thought goes into the creation of artwork like theseSo, not only is the designer pretty stupid, but so are his friends. 0 Location:Parts Unknown Link to post Link to post Posted December 3, 2012 677 Go To Topic Listing 0 Brass Share this post Sign in to follow this   Followers 1 Share this post 22,645 The Spinners had a logo and uniforms last year.
