first_imgBriefs February 1, 2007 Regular News Briefs PBCBA RAISES FUNDS : The Palm Beach County Bar Association recently raised $13,728 for charity during its annual holiday party. More than 100 auction items were donated for the event, from a week’s vacation in a North Carolina cabin to jewelry and professional ballgames. “This is a great way for our members to celebrate the holidays with one another and at the same time give back to the community,” said Manuel Farach, president of the Palm Beach County Bar. “Through our charity auctions, we have raised more than $60,000 in just eight years.” With a portion of the proceeds from this year’s event, the association’s North County Section recently hosted a party for more than 125 abused and neglected children in the guardian ad litem program. In addition, the section will provide five $1,000 college scholarships to students attending the North County campus of Palm Beach Community College this fall. JOHN E. FISHER of Orlando recently climbed to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Fisher is the current president of the Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He posed for a photo holding a FLABOTA flag on Mt. Kilimanjaro, the same flag he carried with him several years ago when he successfully made it approximately 21,000 feet up Mt. Everest in Nepal. THE CARROLLWOOD COMMUNITY BAR Association recently presented a check for $500 to the Ward’s Gift Fund. Immediate past President Paul Riffel presented the check to Debra Johnson. At its recent annual meeting, the members of the Carrollwood Community Bar Association elected directors for 2007, including Daniel Bubley, Martin Bubley, Gerald T. Buhr, William Coffman, Paul Elliott, Andrew Hayes, Joseph Kalish, James Loper, Randall Reder, Paul Riffel, Daniel Saxe, Claire Saady, and Robert Wise. The directors then elected Loper as president, Saady as vice president, Coffman as secretary, and Wise as treasurer.
