Germany expected to deny asylum to thousands

first_imgGermany will send back more migrants in 2016 than in any year since 2003, according to Der Spiegel.The number of people whose requests for international protection in Germany will be rejected by the end of the year is expected to reach 26,500, up from nearly 21,000 the year before.According to a police report cited by the newspaper, three quarters of those who had been denied asylum and will be returned to their countries are from Balkan states. A total of 14, 529 people from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be deported. Among those who failed to obtain asylum in Germany this year are also more than 400 Syrians, more than twice as many as in 2015, the report said.German authorities have also said they will expel more than 12,000 Afghans after they failed to obtain asylum, the Osnabrücker Neue Zeitung reported Thursday.
