Renters with a heart: Children with disabilities are offered free holidays throughout our beautiful country

first_imgA great tourist story that definitely restores faith in people. Namely, the group “Renters with a heart” was founded on Facebook, in which members give their accommodation free of charge to families of children with disabilities. The story began when Vjera Matulić from Postira on Brač founded a FB group with the aim of encouraging private accommodation renters across Croatia to offer their apartments for free to children with developmental problems for a few days, and in just a few days the group gathered over 2.000 members. The main goal of the group is to motivate the hosts in the family accommodation to set aside a few days to help children with developmental problems. “A few days in the summer we can all do it, no one will be impoverished, and we can afford a moment of peace and rest from worries for a needy family with sick children. The only rule is tolerance and a peaceful agreement, belittling anyone, will not be tolerated. Let’s show and prove that not everything is in sholds ” writes in the description of the group Renters with a heart. Each of the hosts in the family accommodation has a hole of a few days in the season, and we hereby invite you to join this commendable action to provide free accommodation to families with children with disabilities and provide them with free holidays. It costs you nothing, and you get a lot. Rather, not in money, but in love, and that is the most valuable thing. Good always comes back to good. You can join the Landlord Group with a heart herelast_img read more

Sykes, Roach Lead UWF to Victory at Watson Ford Invitational

first_imgSykes, Roach Lead UWF to Victory at Watson Ford Invitational  CLINTON, Miss. – The duo of junior Martinique Sykes (Orange Park, Fla./Orange Park HS) and freshman Chris Roach (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease HS) led the West Florida men’s cross country team to victory at the Watson Ford Invitational hosted by Mississippi College on Friday evening.  The meet was scored for Division I schools and non-Division I schools separately, but the Argonauts out-paced opponents in both categories to claim the win.Six Argonauts placed in the top 10 in the non-Division I results and overall in the 8k run.  Mississippi College placed first among Division I schools, and Hendrix was the second place finisher for the non-Division I field.“I’m very pleased with how we ran today in our final tune-up for the postseason,” said head coach John Bergen.  “It’s a challenging course, and we were hoping we would be pushed by some of the other top teams.  We’re very pleased with how we’re running heading into postseason.”For Sykes, the race marked his fourth top five finish of the season and his first career win as he crossed the finish line at 26:35.“Martinique ran a very strong and smart race,” explained Bergen.  “He let a couple other runners set the pace early, and he took over between the second and third mile marks.  Some of his own teammates pushed him a bit, but he held on and ran a very strong race for the win.  It was an impressive win for Martnique.”Roach was close behind Sykes, crossing the line in second place at 26:39 for a personal best.  The rest of UWF’s pack at the front included junior Dominique Sykes (Orange Park, Fla./Orange Park HS) in fourth at 26:54, senior Eddie Pagan (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) in sixth at 27:02, freshman Cody Haden (Navarre, Fla./Navarre HS) in eighth at 27:28 and senior Jared Black (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon HS) in ninth at 27:32.“Our veteran group of Eddie, Jared, Dominique and Martinique has been a great group for three years,” said Bergen.  “They’ve trained hard and always raced well, and we know we’re getting good results out of them.  Our freshman group has stayed right with our leaders, as they did today.”Freshman Roman Kowalski (Pensacola, Fla./Catholic HS) finished in 16th place at 28:16, and he was followed by sophomore Titus Cheruiyot (Eldoret, Kenya/Tenwek HS) in 19th place at 28:29.  Freshman Brandon Skeie (West Creek, N.J./Southern Regional HS) was a late scratch prior to the race due to a foot injury. The Argonauts will head to Hoover, Ala. on Oct. 22 for the Gulf South Conference Championships at Veterans Park.  UWF is looking for its third GSC championship and its first since 1996.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com. #ARGOS#Mississippi College Japan teenager skis to wakeboard gold

first_imgAKITA – Mero Narita, who helped deliver the athletes’ oath for the World Games 11 days ago, delivered a gold medal Sunday — the final day of competition — when she won the women’s wakeboard event in water skiing.Tokyo lifeguard Masami Yusa then made it a mini-gold rush for the host country by winning the women’s beach flags event in the life saving competition, which brought Japan’s gold medal total to nine. GET THE BEST OF THE JAPAN TIMES Japan also struck gold in the demonstration sport of sumo, winning four of the eight gold medals on offer at Tenno Municipal Gymnasium.Russia topped the final medal standings with 24 gold medals and 44 overall (24-15-5), followed by the United States with 31 (15-8-8) and France with 23 (12-5-6). Japan was seventh with nine gold medals and 25 overall (9-6-10). At Ogata Water Ski Course, Narita ignored the pain of a shoulder separation suffered in July to turn in an energetic routine for 44.30 points and the gold medal ahead of Australia’s Leza Bugden and compatriot Kiyomi Suzuki.“I couldn’t worry whether (my shoulder) hurt or not. I had to get out there and do what I enjoy doing,” the Osaka native said.Domu Narita, however, did not fare as well as his 13-year-old sister, finishing eighth in the men’s wakeboard event, won by Vinh-tung Rodolphe of France. Morgan Krause of South Africe won the silver medal and Fabrizio Bennelli of Italy grabbed the bronze. Also in water skiing, three-time world champion Martin Patrice of France came from behind to win the men’s overall title and Elena Milakova of Russia took the women’s crown. In life saving’s surf events, Yusa edged Spain’s Rosa Gonzalez for the gold medal in women’s beach flags and Japanese compatriot Kozue Fujiwara grabbed the bronze at Iwaki Island Park.“I’m so happy to win a gold medal in the first international meet to be held in Japan,” Yusa said.Japan also got a bronze medal in the men’s beach flags event from Hidenobu Tadano behind Spain’s Sergio Leon and Waleed Damon of South Africa. center_img IN FIVE EASY PIECES WITH TAKE 5last_img read more
