Sanford lost the Salybia constituency to the Dominica Labor Party for three consecutive general elections. Linton told the press that Sanford has made some decisions and is now seeking the best ways to continue to serve the UWP. “There is a future for Claudius Sanford in the United Workers Party, Claudius Sanford actually led our strategic planning team through the election cycle and he had the misfortune of not winning the seat on the third occasion. He has made some decisions about that going forward,” “I think I can say that he is considering the best ways in which he can serve the party, that is his call,” Linton said. He added that Sanford was being considered as one of the senators however there were many to choose from. “What we were faced with was appointing four senators and we made those appointments in a very democratic manner, Mr Sanford was one of those considered as were the other unsuccessful candidates, remember we’re filling a team of 21 and the consensus brought forward the four people whom we have asked the President to appoint as senators,” he said.
