Wild wallops Green Valley

first_imgJohn Hendry and his Mate Graham Stitfall were over from Canarvon, but unfortunately Graham got a cracked rib and was playing in all sorts of pain.  Impressive perseverance and enjoy your trip up to Nong Khai mate and get some rest. There were some fantastic scores in today and four ‘2’s also.  When a score of 36 points from Gus George only gets fourth spot you know the field has scored well.  Third place went to Bruce McAdam with 37 points, second went to Dayle Shier with 40 and in first place was Kevin Wild who finished with a magic 46 points.  This is the second time in his golfing career that he has broken a hundred gross and he couldn’t stop smiling even as he rang the bell. The ‘2’s came from Dayle Shier, Mark Wood, Peter Lenoury and Bob Philp.Friday, August 9, Crystal Bay – StablefordWith six groups we set off from the bar a little early because sometimes travelling to Crystal Bay can get a bit hectic in the traffic and today was no exception.  The course was a little rough around the edges and the greens with different grass here and made for a good challenge. We said hello today to Brad Sproxton and goodbye to Bill Rogers, who was going home to Melbourne and hopefully coming back at Xmas. There was a three-way count back for second, third and fourth places, all on 35 points, which was headed by Brad Sproxton with 21 on the back nine while Darl White (18) took third and Eng Cotterell (17) fourth.  The winner meanwhile was the Capt. Bob with 38 points. There were two ‘2’s coming from Bob Philp and Owen Walkley.Note:  If you are looking for a game with some friendly golfers give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 or call into the bar we are just off Siam Country road looking straight down Lake Maprachan.  Also, if anybody is looking for a right hand R1 there is one for sale for 10.000 baht.  Just give Bob a call and he will put you in touch with the vendor.  He assures it hasn’t been used properly since he bought it! The Billabong Bar Golf SocietyWednesday, August 7, Green Valley – StablefordGreen Valley is our normal venue for Wednesday and with eight groups taking part it was a grand day out.  Everyone enjoyed themselves today as this course is manicured to perfection; the greens were top dressed the previous week and they are now as good as you will putt on anywhere.  The fairways on 17 and 18 have been scarified but that didn’t make any difference either. We were off to an early start and it was a four hour round for easy golf.  John Mills had a big night the night before and had to call it quits after eleven holes and call a taxi to take him home.  I don’t think the flu had anything to do with his condition, just a little over indulgence.Green Valley winners.last_img read more

Keshi under threat as champs Nigeria stutter

first_imgNigeria host Sudan, who are now third in the standings with three points, in a return fixture on Wednesday in the capital, Abuja.Next month, they travel to second-placed Congo, who defeated them 3-2 in September, before the arrival of group leaders South Africa.Nigeria have to win all three matches and hope other results go their way if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the finals in Morocco in January.Keshi, whose position has been the subject of repeated speculation, has apologised for the defeat to Sudan but at the same time claimed there was a conspiracy to ensure that he fails.“There is a sabotage by some people. I won’t mention their names but they know themselves. They want to run this team down,” he claimed.“Some people are ready to sell this country for a dime. They want to sabotage the Super Eagles.“It’s a shame. They don’t want this team to get to the AFCON (Nations Cup), they want this team to lose outright. But they are not God.“And this is not Keshi’s team. Keshi is a professional coach and after this (assignment), he will get another job elsewhere.” – Boos and brickbats – Nigeria fans awaiting the team’s return from Sudan at Abuja airport on Sunday roundly booed the players and question marks about Keshi’s future dominated the country’s media on Monday. The 52-year-old does not have a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after his initial three-year deal ran out following the World Cup finals in Brazil. He led Nigeria to win a third Nations Cup last year and guided the Eagles to reach the World Cup knockout stage. But he has lost the support of many players after much-publicised rows with the likes of Emmanuel Emenike, Peter Odemwingie and Ikechukwu Uche. His record of five defeats, five draws and just one victory in the last 11 matches has only compounded dissatisfaction.“The boys did not play for their coach (against Sudan) and he (Keshi) should now know what to do,” said Larry Izamoje, owner of Nigeria’s all-sports radio Brila FM.Most fans have equally demanded for the dismissal of the coach. One Nigeria supporter in Lagos, Mike Johnson, said Keshi has nothing more to offer.“After watching Eagles against Congo and South Africa, I concluded that Eagles are going down,” he said.“But when I watched them against Sudan, I know that is the end of Keshi era because I saw no touch of technical input in the team.“The performance of the team was an eyesore. Keshi should be sent away.”The NFF’s new president Amaju Pinnick also criticised the defeat in Khartoum but maintained that they will not rush a decision over Keshi’s future and would act in the country’s best interest.“It is embarrassing that as reigning champions, we are struggling in the qualifying series, with only one point out of a possible nine. It is an awful output,” he said.“However, we want our people to be patient and not stampede the federation to take knee-jerk decisions that will backfire in the end.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000ABUJA, October 13- Pressure is mounting on Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, with growing unhappiness about his handling of the team and as the African champions risk elimination from next year’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles, who won the competition in 2013, are currently bottom of Group A after a shock 1-0 defeat away to Sudan and just a single point from three games in the qualifiers.last_img read more

Making Sense of the “New iPhone” Rumors

first_imgThe new iPhone, expected to launch sometime in Q3 2011, will be “thinner and lighter” than the iPhone 4, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the situation. It will also include an 8-megapixel camera – a big step up from the 5-megapixel camera now in the iPhone 4, claims the paper. While the 8-megapixel camera has been reported by numerous sources, the design itself is still in question. Last month, for example, Bloomberg said the new iPhone would “closely resemble” the iPhone 4. And in May, This is my Next… reported the iPhone would sport a teardrop-shaped design. What’s really going on?What’s going on is that no one knows. New design, same design, thinner, lighter, teardrop-shaped? Everything’s in full “rumor” territory until Apple CEO Steve Jobs steps on stage and holds up the new device for the world to see. That being said, when comparing all the reports in aggregate, some trends can be seen.Biggest Rumors So FarFor starters, in the Journal report, an unnamed component supplier stated that Apple’s sales estimates for the next iPhone were aggressive – Apple told them to prepare for 25 million units by year end. But two other sources cautioned that the new iPhone is “complicated and difficult to assemble,” which could prove challenging for Hon Hai, the global assembler for Apple products. And what makes a phone complicated to assemble? Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou said it was because some of the devices it handles are “so thin,” explains The Journal, referring to something Gou said at the company’s annual meeting in June. For what it’s worth, the iPhone 5 (if that’s what it will be called) described by The Journal could confirm both the This is my Next… report of a teardrop-shaped phone as well as an earlier BGR report which states that the next iPhone will not be “an upgraded iPhone 4 as had been previously rumored.” Instead, said BGR, it will sport a “radical new case design.”At the time, BGR didn’t have any news on what that case design would be, but referenced the This is my Next… blog post as one possibility.  And Joshua Topolsky of This is my Next.., formerly of Engadget, had reported all the way back in January that the next iPhone would be “completely redesigned,” according to his sources. While it’s entirely possible that all the sources referenced are just the machinations of Apple PR, the trend does seem to point to a new look for the new iPhone. At least, that’s what we’re hoping for, especially considering all the drama over “antennagate” with the iPhone 4. Oh, had you all forgotten that? But of course the new iPhone will be redesigned – Apple doesn’t want to go through that again!
