Public relations officer of the Association, Severin McKenzie says there is an urgent need for the authorities to look at another coconut rehabilitation project. Earlier this week, the Association launched a new magazine dubbed “DMA Digest” highlighting the many possibilities for coconut in manufacturing. McKenzie says the revitalization of the coconut sector will be an added boost to the economic development of Dominica. “Right now the information about the coconut oil has proven that coconut oil is one of the best oils as far as health benefits are concerned”.“With all the coconut that we produce in Dominica and all the possibilities that we have, we thought that is something that we should focus on with the first publication of our magazine,” Mr McKenzie said. He indicated that it is critical to revitalize the sector as there are several benefits for the country. “We want to get people back into the production of coconut, we are also making a recommendation that the authorities should look at another coconut rehabilitation project where we could encourage people to cultivate coconut because coconut have a lot of potential,” McKenzie noted. The DMA is recommending another coconut rehabilitation programme to meet the many demands for coconut products on the international market. “We are looking at the type of product that Dominica has and coconut is the one that we see right now with quite a bit of potential particularly with the re-emergence of Virgin coconut oil on the international market,” he noted. The magazine is sold at $10.00 per copy and is available from DMA members and other retail outlets. It will also be available online.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img read more
