JUTC To Launch Kingston City Tour Tomorrow

first_imgThe Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will launch its Kingston City Tour Service on Emancipation Day (August 1) at the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre.Minister of Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Dr. Omar Davies, will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony, which is scheduled to get underway at 9:00am.Minister of Youth and Culture, Hon. Lisa Hanna, is also expected to be in attendance.In an interview with JIS News, JUTC’s Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Clinton Clarke, explained that the tour was developed to give Jamaicans and foreigners an opportunity to learn more about the city of Kingston.“We recognise that a significant number of Jamaicans, who live in these areas and some who visit from other parishes, are not very aware of the history, the culture, the music and the dance that is associated with the city,” he noted.Mr. Clarke said while there are other operators, who offer tour services in the city, as the “as the premier transportation provider in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR) the JUTC has decided to undertake a more co-ordinated approach to touring the city”.The inaugural Spirit of Reggae tour will follow the launching ceremony. The tour will go to four locations – the Bob Marley Museum, Independence Park, Trench Town Culture Yard and Tuff Gong Studios.According to Mr. Clarke, additional tours will come on stream such as Jamaica’s Heritage at a Glance, which will include some landmarks downtown such as George William Gordon House and the Jewish synagogue.“There will also be the Port Royal Experience, Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum, which will cover Fort Charles and the Port Royal Town Centre,” he added.He said the company is also looking at developing a tour of museums across the Kingston Metropolitan Area such as the military museum, the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) museum and the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), which has four museums.Interested persons are invited to visit the JUTC website, Facebook page or call 1888-991-6684 for additional information.
