VALENCIA – The American Welding Society has recognized College of the Canyons with national accreditation. The designation allows the community college to serve as an accredited testing facility. “This is as good as it gets,” said Tim Baber, chairman of the college’s Welding Technology Program. “It really expands upon the certification choices students have.” Baber said students who pass the organization’s welding certification exams are more likely to find work and, in the end, can earn higher wages. Starting this month, the school is offering new courses in pipe welding. The classes join a host of other existing courses in welding technology, metal sculpturing and weld inspecting. To qualify for the certified program, the college’s Welding Technology Department passed an extensive audit and accreditation process, Baber said. Fall classes at College of the Canyons will begin Aug. 28. [email protected] (661) 257-5254160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
