Here’s a Better Way to Deal With Life’s Risks

first_imgThe world is an uncertain and risky place. The news constantly bombards us with scary situations from school shootings to gruesome murders.Risk is everywhere and associated with everything. For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a decade ago estimated 234,000 people a year ended up in emergency rooms because of bathroom injuries alone. While this figure is shockingly high, it probably won’t prevent you from using the toilet or washing your hands. And in general, hiding under the bed to avoid risky decisions is not a realistic option for living life.In part, that’s because we’re all risk analysts, continually weighing the costs and benefits of every decision we make. The problem is, most of us aren’t actually that good at it. As an economist, I thought it would be interesting to explore how we weigh risk in our daily lives – and how we might be able to do it more accurately. Best Dressed Playoff/Championship Series/Games

Two classic looks. It wasn’t a championship but it was a semi-final. The National Championship looked good, but it wasn’t the best look for either team. Buster Hey guys-After looking at the TB vs CHI Stanley Cup Finals series, I thought that this could be one of the best dressed series in playoff/championship sports history. I mean, look at them:Is there any others you thought looked really good? Post your ideas here. I would love to see this become an awesome thread. I’ll say it again, Tampa Bay doesn’t have bad uniforms. You guys criticize them for looking like a Leafs/Wings mix, two of the best jerseys in the NHL. In a vacuum, Tampa looks great. It’s just that they look to much like another team. Let’s dock them points for creativity, not pure looks. They should’ve stayed primarily black. ¿City of Champions? 245 Playoff Members Share this post Joe InGOAT Posted June 4, 2015 All Activity mafiaman 0 Next Link to post Link to post 4 22,252 posts Share on other sites Also, 1992 World Series. They would do well to take their shoulder patch and use it as a starting point. Still, for a franchise with a short history plagued with sartorial conundrum, this is a huge improvement. Very rare championship matchup. 455 posts 2,511 posts Location:The Canadian Prairies 767 1,761 Regarding Blackhawks/Lightning….I actually agree that it’s going to be a great one. I think we can all agree that what Tampa Bay is wearing is not ideally what they should be wearing – black and blue is what they should be skating out in – but if we’re putting that aside and just talking uniforms as they are? Heck, I’ll say it: Tampa Bay looks great. I love it. It’s clean and crisp, and the blue looks great against Chicago. Throw the tomatoes if you want to, but I think when just talking uniform match ups as they presently are, you have to look at what you’re presently given and strip away all the other “they should be wearing this or that” stuff. And what I’m seeing is a great matchup. And now for something completely different, I’ll throw another matchup out there: 1961 World Series, Pirates vs. Yankees. Possibly two of the top five greatest uniform sets in baseball history pitted against each other. I feel Pittsburgh’s classic vests, just as they were in ’61 from head to toe, were absolutely flawless. I’m not exaggerating either, I can’t think of a single flaw. Just a perfect set (and what they should still be wearing today). Pit that against the timeless Yankee pinstripes (and a beautiful, classy road set), and you get an absolutely perfect championship matchup. It doesn’t hurt either that a moment like Mazeroski’s homer is linked to that matchup forever, too.As for more recent and modern WS match ups, I always felt Indians/Marlins in ’97, Phillies/Yankees in ’09, and Royals/Giants last year were great as well. I thought each of these were great match-ups, and each offered something different style and color wise. A great Bulls uniform vs. the iconic Lakers’ unis in 1991. A unique style in 1992 that shared the Bulls’ colors while looking very different. And in 1993, the now-entrenched classic vs. something outlandish which still worked great. The second three-peat wasn’t nearly as good, uni-wise. James Rodriguez ‘would like Napoli’ claims father-in-law

Powered by Firework Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez’s father-in-law Hernan Ospina claims his son-in-law would like a move to Serie A side SSC Napoli, amidst doubts surrounding his future in the German capital, with the forward yearning for a return to parent club Real Madrid, from which he is out on loan in the Bundesliga. Advertisement Rodriguez joined Bayern on a 2-year long loan from Real Madrid at the beginning of the 2017-18 season. The Columbian has so far been monumental in the Bavarians’ success, winning the Bundesliga in his very first season. However, having entered the final two months of his loan spell in Germany, the forward wants out of the club, and though he has cited his wish for a return to the Spanish capital in the summer, the La Liga side deem the former FC Porto player a surplus addition to Zidane’s new plans.Making news is the Columbia international’s father-in-law Hernan Ospina, who claims that Rodriguez would like a move to Napoli in the summer. And a reunion with present Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti, who managed the then 22-year old winger during his time with the Los Blancos, is surely on the paper.Advertisement Ospina told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli:“My daughter Daniela told me that he has a great relationship with Carlo Ancelotti and would be happy to reunite with him.Advertisement “I think he would one day like to play in Italy and of course at a big club like Napoli. All Colombian players would like to have an experience in Serie A,” Ospina added.Read also:-Eden Hazard’s Chelsea exit inevitable come what mayReal entice Varane to stay, will offer him a pay raise Advertisementlast_img read more

NUIG to honour the late Joe McDonagh on Fitzgibbon Cup weekend

first_imgTo coincides with NUIG’s hosting of the Fitzgibbon Cup semi finals this weekend, the college have organised a night to honour the late Joe McDonagh tomorrow night (Friday) in the Westwood Hotel. Organisers are keen to contact as many as possible of the players who lined out with and against Joe during his days in UCG, where he played hurling and football. He featured on several college teams in both codes, with the highlight coming in 1977 when UCG won the Fitzgibbon Cup. print WhatsApp Facebook Twitter Email It was a team with several big leaders. Joe captained Galway in 1979 when they lost to Kilkenny in the 1979 All-Ireland final; Joe Connolly was captain a year later when they ended a 57-year wait for an All-Ireland title with a team managed by Cyril Farrell (corner-forward on the 1977 Fitzgibbon Cup team). Pat Fleury (Offaly), another of Joe’s colleagues in 1977, captained Offaly to All-Ireland success in 1985, while Conor Hayes led Galway to the All-Ireland double in 1987-’88.center_img The 1977 final saw UCG defeat Maynooth 1-14 to 1-12, with Joe McDonagh getting the only goal of the game early in the second half. Joe Connolly scored 0-8 from frees and from play, while another Galway legend Iggy Clarke was at centre back for the defeated Maynooth side. The full match report from the Connacht Tribune is here:last_img read more
