Recap: Nationals defeat Phillies 10-6

first_imgThe Washington Nationals held off the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in regular season action. The Nats’ record now stands at 5-5. The Phillies drop to 7-3. Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington, belting out four homeruns by Yan Gomes, Howie Kendrick, Victor Robles, and Juan Soto. In the first inning, third baseman, Anthony Rendon, hit a sacrifice fly to right, and Adam Eaton scored, making the score 1-0. In the top of the sixth inning, Anthony Rendon doubled to right, scoring Robles. At the top of the seventh, catcher Yan Gomes hit his first home run of the season. Pitch hitter, Howie Kendrick, hit his first home run of the season in the middle of the seventh. Center fielder, Victor Robles, hit his third home run of the season to tie the game at 6-6 with two outs in the ninth. In the bottom of the tenth, left fielder, Juan Soto, hit a huge three-run homer with Brian Dozier and Anthony Rendon on base. Also in the bottom of the tenth, Rendon doubled to deep right and Ryan Zimmerman scored. Stephen Strasburg pitched a very strong four innings for Washington. Matt Grace pitched two innings. Sean Doolittle, Washington’s closer, came into the game and had two strikeouts, one of which was against former teammate, Bryce Harper.center_img The Washington Nationals play the Philadelphia Phillies tonight for the last game of the series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
