Christie Lee defeated teammate Siobhan Drysdale in the gold-medal match and Jiahua Li capped off the team’s strong showing with a win in the bronze medal match over Western Mustang Danilla Xing. Toronto continued its display of prowess with a silver in the epee from Donna Vakalis.Heading into Sunday with a 21-point lead, the Varsity Blues refused to give any of it up, reaching top-two in all three events.Toronto cruised through to the foil final in the team portion and defeated the Queen’s Gaels to capture gold. The Toronto women also captured gold in the epee. A sweep of the team events was in prime position to come true but a valiant performance from the Mustangs in the Sabre final stifled the Varsity Blues, limiting them to silver.Women’s Epee Team ResultsWomen’s Epee Individual ResultsWomen’s Foil Team ResultsWomen’s Foil Individual ResultsWomen’s  Sabre Team ResultsWomen’s  Sabre Individual ResultsOVERALL TEAM STANDINGS:Toronto – 360Western – 292RMC – 235Queen’s – 218York – 79Carleton – 75Ryerson – 69McMaster – 60Ottawa – 43Trent – 36Brock – 26Waterloo – 3Guelph – 1INDIVIDUAL RESULTS:Women’s Individual Foil:Maitre Ken Wood Trophy1st – Christie Lee, Toronto2nd – Siobhan Drysdale, Toronto3rd – Jiahua Li, Toronto Story Linkscenter_img The University of Toronto Varsity Blues not only held onto their points lead after Day 1 but extended it into their first Kay Aoyama Trophy as OUA women’s fencing champions since 2010-11 on Sunday at the Norm Fenn Gymnasium at Carleton University. It’s the school’s 11th overall championship and moves them ahead of Western for the most of any OUA women’s fencing school.
