Taxi driver fined for selling car belonging to another

first_imgAshton April, a taxi driver, was on Wednesday fined 0,000 when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer for selling a motorcar placed in his care.The 29-year-old of Lot 181 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and plead guilty to the charge against him.That charge stated that between April 2016 and August 2017, while being solely entrusted by Kishaun Garraway with one Toyota motorcar with registration number PKK 5957, and valued $1.7 million in order that he use and return the proceeds to the Virtual Complainant (VC), he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefits.According to Prosecutor Simone Payne, on August 14, 2017, the VC called the defendant and was told that his vehicle was at the mechanic for repairs.However, the following day, the VC observed someone else driving his car and when he made attempts to contact the defendant, his efforts proved futile.The matter was reported to the Police and the defendant was arrested and charged with the offence.The defendant told the court that he sold the car for $350,000. He was however fined $100,000 or will face six months in prison.last_img
